The Pinecrest Neighborhood Association Board of Directors have issued the attached Position Statement on the proposed rezoning and redevelopment of the Blue Care Network site at the corner of Lake Lansing and Coolidge Roads in East Lansing.
After talking with PNA Board of Directors, there is clear and unanimous support for a resolution OPPOSING the conditional rezoning of the property at the southwest corner of the Lake Lansing and Coolidge in East Lansing. This action is being taken by the Board after careful consideration of the proposal, review of input from persons addressing the neighborhood meeting held at Pinecrest School, three East Lansing Planning Commission meetings, an East Lansing Transportation Commission meeting, e-mails received by PNA board members, and comments of neighborhood residents who have signed petitions opposing the redevelopment. The record shows overwhelming opposition to the proposal.
At a May Neighborhood Association Presidents meeting at the Hannah Community Center, more than half of the people present expressed concern about the proposed rezoning and asked whether the PNA was taking a position. Since that time, it is apparent that there are many concerns in adjacent neighborhoods and in other areas of the city facing related planning and conditional zoning issues. They expected action by the PNA.
At the June Neighborhood Association Presidents meeting, the Blue Cross Blue Shield Development was added to the agenda for discussion. Many concerns with the BCBS Caddis proposal were expressed mirroring many aspects of the position prepared by the PNA Board of Directors. After looking into the issue for the past several months, the picture is pretty clear. The BCBS CADDIS conditional rezoning is opposed by a huge margin of persons who have commented. The Position Statement of the PNA Board members is being transmitted to all members of the City Council and presidents of all the neighborhood associations. There are several additional opportunities for follow-up and for you to express your personal position on this proposed development. You can send comments to all board members at pnaboard@elansing.com.
Don and Maureen Power are willing to host a meeting to provide neighborhood residents information about the proposal on Thursday, July 8, at 7:00 PM. The Powers live at 1200 Blanchette Drive. The street provides plenty of parking. Their house is on one of the main walking routes in the PNA neighborhood.
If you or your neighbors are interested in a walk thru of the site or a presentation at a block meeting, please contact the PNA webmaster (pinecrest@elansing.net) to arrange a presentation.
The BCBS CADDIS conditional rezoning is scheduled for the Tuesday, July 20 East Lansing City Council meeting.Click Here for the Position Statement
